Newbie Tutorial

Movement and Buildings

Movement is done by pressing on any of the arrows surrounding your character name while on the grid page. Each movement will take 0.2 energy points.

To enter a public building (red squares), you must walk into the square and then click the "Enter" button located on the left side panel. Exits back to the main map are always located at co-ordinates 10, 10.

The sun rises once a day at 7am EST (12pm GMT), so you will want to be inside a building when that happens (if you are a vampire) or you will be wounded. Because of this, you should always rest your character inside a building when you go offline. For more information on building types click here.

Feeding

If you are a vampire, you will lose 1 blood per day, so you will want to feed at least once a day if you can. To feed on a human, click on the human's name (see picture 1, right).

Beware! When feeding you should always take into consideration the security level of the current square, which can be seen on the side panel under the "local" sub-heading (see picture 2, right).

Security 1 locations are always safe to feed in, but any higher than that and you risk being spotted. If spotted while feeding, you may be attacked by hunters or cops, your bounty will increase, and the alert level of the entire city will increase, putting vampires in danger!

Stealing

If you're going to be a good thief and you want to steal from other players, it takes dexterity and a reasonable thievery skill. But if you're just starting out, you might have some luck stealing from humans. To attempt to steal from either humans or vampires, click the dollar symbol ($) next to the target's name.

Most players wont attack you for stealing from them, but you're probably going to get more money from stealing from humans at first anyway.

Banks

Banks (blue building squares on the main map) are essential if you don't want your money to be stolen from you. There are banks in each of the districts and can usually be found by sticking to the main road. Once you enter a bank, the banking commands box will appear on the left side of your screen.

You can use them check your account ballance, deposit or withdraw money (see image), or you can pay other players directly from your bank account.

Terminals

Terminals are a large part of playing Path of the Vampire. They allow your character to hack, check bounties, and will soon be used to accept missions and jobs, and read mail.

The primary way of accessing terminals is through internet cafes (always red public buildings). There are currently 6 cafes in the city, and many characters own terminals in their private apartments or lairs. Once you enter a cafe, move into any square (except for the exit) and you will see the terminal controls box appear on the left of the screen (see picture).

You should not try hacking until you read the hacking guide.

Experience and Levels

If you look at your left hand "side panel" while on the main grid page, you will see values for PXP and EXP. Once your EXP reaches 100% it will turn into a link to level up.

PXP (powers experience points) is what you can use to get new powers. You gain 1 PXP per day, as long as your blood is at maximum at the end of the day, so remember to feed! You cannot get PXP if you are a basic human.

EXP is split into mind, body and spirit experience points. You will get these by doing almost anything, from stealing to using powers, completing missions or fighting zombies or hacking. Get enough total EXP and you will be able to increase your stats and skills.

However, be sure to concentrate on the type of experience you want to get, if you wish to receive bonus stat or skill points. For example, if you wanted to increase your strength during level up you should concentrate on getting body experience from stealing or fighting NPCs.

When levelling up, select the stat or skill you wish to increase (1 stat, 1 skill per level up). If you pick a stat with a "+1" next to it, you will increase that by 2 points instead of 1. You can hover over each stat to read more about it. Once you have decided, click the submit button at the bottom to confirm your choices.

Missions

Missions and jobs are coming soon. They will allow your character to complete an assortment of story and non-story based jobs, from hacking to fighting, assassinations, or jobs as simple as delivering things.
