Rituals are the art of using the Fae Language to trap and bend a demi-fae creature to your will. Different rituals will accomplish different tasks; some can be cast on the self, while others require a third party. Some are geared towards inanimate objects while others are used with only one specific character in mind. A successful ritual requires the completion of an incantation using the Fae Language while ensuring the demi-fae doesn't escape.
Rituals range in difficulty; some require no skill whatsoever whereas others require the highest skill level possible. There are rituals that are common knowledge, available to anyone with the required level of training and items, whereas others need to be learned from tomes that must be acquired.
In order to perform a ritual, you'll need certain ingredients and to locate a ritual altar (or buy your own). From there, you will be able to begin the hangman-style mini game to determine the incantation for your chosen ritual. The main skills and attributes associated with rituals are rituals, speechcraft, willpower, and arcane.
Ritual Altars can be found in numerous public buildings & businesses around town.

There are 8 basic rituals that everyone may perform if they have the required skill. All other rituals will have to be learned before being able to preform them. To learn a ritual, you must acquire a tome.
- The Ritual Skill that is listed as you approach the altar is the level of ritual skill points needed in order to proceed. It is listed below as Ritual Skill instead of level.
- Ingredients are the items you need to collect to in order to cast the ritual. Please be aware you will need multiple of each ingredient in case you fail the ritual or need to cast it more then once.
These are the basic rituals that do not require a tome. Anyone with the appropriate ritual skill level may perform these rituals, provided they have the listed ingredients.
|Locate Enemy||This ritual will triangulate the position of a random enemy of any specified type.||2||
|Unwelcoming||Un-invite one vampire from your current location. Note: Ritual must be performed in the location from which the target is being uninvited.||2||
|Projected Depression||Inflicts a non-anonymous -2 willpower wound on a target.||3||
|Ichnocognition||Alerts you when somebody tries to track you. Lasts until Day Change Saturday to Sunday.||4||
|Thrall Barrier||Lock out all vampire thralls from the target area for 1 day.||5||
|Know Vampire||Learn the identity of one random vampire.||6||
|Open Door||Unlocks a door mechanism in a team raid.
Note: Cannot be performed outside team raids.
|Pilfer Valuable||Send out the demi-fae spirit to steal one random semi-valuable item.||20||
These rituals may be performed by anyone with the required skill, but a tome must be acquired beforehand. These tomes are sold in magic shops throughout the city, via the auction or, if you're lucky, another PC.
|Attunement||Gifts the target with a temporary boost in ritual and willpower stats (+2 on each). Lasts until the end of the day.||6||
|Call to Blood||Locate one of your childer.||7||
|Bless Weapon||Increase weapon power and accuracy by 1, but lower quality to 1.
Can only be used on quality 3+ weapons.
|Will Shift||'Boost a target`s energy points. The lower level they are, the more energy you give (15 - target`s level, to a minimum of 1 energy boosted).||8||
|Vitality Shift||On completion, this ritual boosts a target`s blood by 1 point.||8||
|Spirit Shift||This ritual will boost a target`s current anima level by 1 point.||8||
||This ritual will list all the names of the player characters in the area in question (human or vampire)||8||
||Can be cast on any area (building floor name, for example), and it will prevent all seeker powers from being used on anyone in that area.||8||
|Unknowing||Make one random person forget about ever knowing you.||9||
|Banish Wraith||Instantly banish a wraith to the shadow realm.||9||
|Flesh Gift||Can be used on one of the wraith guides. It will not instantly give them life back, but will help them the gain strength needed to possibly return.
This tome was specific to a part of a chapter and its outcome. It currently serves no in game purpose.
|Sire's Virility||Adds 2 additional siring slots to a target of your choice, letting them turn more childer into vampires.||10||
|Fortify Abode||Lock everyone out of your home for 24 hours. Will also lock yourself out if you leave.
Must be performed inside the home being fortified.
|Turning||Drains 1 blood from a target anonymously||10||
|Eternal Bond||Creates an eternal bond between two characters who are holding Amaranthine Rings. Ritual performed by a 3rd party.||10||
|Home Bound||Teleport to your target location at any time, by clicking on your tome.
When you give someone a copy of your Home Bound tome, it keeps its currently bound location. However, it wipes your original copy, which means you need to perform a ritual for each tome you give away. You also have to be the owner of the property in order to create a tome to that location.
|Public House||Open any target abode to all vampires for 1 hour.
Note: Public House trumps Fortify Abode
||Lessens the supernatural connection between sire and childer, preventing sire combat advantages by allowing the formation of an independent bloodline.||12||
|Eirene's Will||Cast on any location to summon an invisible demifae spirit to the area, making it impossible to commit violence or use certain powers in that place for 24 hours.||13||
||Free any wraith/vampire from the shadow realm, and let them wander the real world as a wraith.||14||
The Ritual Screen
Details on your stats and the power of the demi-fae that has been summoned, the number of binding ingredients you have remaining as well as how many actions you have left are all indicated on the left of the screen.
The binding circle is located at the top of the screen and is where your summoned demi-fae is contained. For each incorrect guess, the demi-fae may move about and try to break free from the circle. If the demi-fae chooses to attack one of the 8 sections of the barrier, that section will be weakened. After each attack, the damaged section grows dimmer. The sections can be repaired by clicking on whichever one needs repair. Repairing the circle uses one action and one binding ingredient. If a single section is attacked 4 times without being repaired, the circle will break and the demi-fae is released, causing injury to the ritualist and the loss of a random ingredient.
Below the binding circle is the Fae language - each inkblot character indicates a letter. Click on any of the characters to make a guess - if the character is a part of the ritual, it will appear in the incantation below the 'keyboard' and you will not lose an action. If the character does not appear in the incantation, you lose an action and the demi-fae has a chance to attack the binding circle. Once clicked, the character will take on a red outline to indicate it has already been tried.
Starting a Ritual
While standing in a square with a ritual altar, click the 'Use' button on the left-hand side of the screen. This will open a new page with a list of available rituals. As with crafting, each ritual requires a certain skill level before it can be 'unlocked'. If you do not have the required level in the ritual skill for a particular ritual, you will see a 'Required Rituals: x' note on the right.
In addition, each ritual requires a specific list of items. Items listed in red are items you have in your inventory. White items are those that you need to acquire. Until you have all the needed ingredients, you will see the 'Lacking Ingredients' message instead of an 'Attempt Ritual' button.
Once you have selected the above mentioned button, remember that you are considered to be in the midst of said ritual until you do one of the things below:
- Complete ritual:
- Faill to contain the demi-fae creature within the walls of Ritual circle.
- Fail ritual by running out of available actions.
- Fail ritual due to running out of materials.
If none of these are met, you will be connected to the specific ritual screen until it does. No other rituals can be done/
Performing a Ritual
For a walkthrough of a completed ritual, see here.
- Rituals - Higher levels in this unlock better rituals, as long as you have the corresponding tome. Higher ritual skill levels will also reveal up to 5 Fae characters at the beginning of the ritual.
- Willpower -- Increases the total number of actions you have
- Arcane -- Increases the total number of actions you have
- Speechcraft -- Higher levels increase your ability to reason with the demi-fae, affecting how frequently it gets angry and attempts to break out of your binding circle
Unclassed humans gain an automatic bonus to their available actions as well as to the power they have over the demi-fae. As demi-fae have less hatred for humans in general, a human ritualist will be better able to cope with the task of completing the ritual (comparatively at least).
The incantation itself consists of two main parts - a set of static words that appear in each instance of a particular ritual and a set that changes each time the ritual is performed. Part of performing a ritual is about looking at the patterns and memorizing characters. Some characters actually look like the action or feeling they are intended to portray, so learning what the characters each represent and how using them in combination with other characters changes their meaning can make rituals easier to perform. At the same time, the dynamic aspect of the incantation ensures that rituals aren't just a simple matter of relying on memory or using a cheat sheet.
Completing the ritual before the demi-fae escapes or you run out of actions will award you a fair bit of experience The formula for most rituals is (level of ritual*5+10). Usually the higher the level of ritual, the more experience gained, though it is not the case in rituals such as Pilfer Valuable, which following the standard formula should give 110exp but only gives 65exp and Open Door which is based on the level of the Raid it is used in and what floor (the higher the floor the higher the exp gain). Successful completion of the ritual also uses up 1 of each item required for the ritual.
If the demi-fae escapes the circle by breaking through or you run out of actions, the ritual fails and you lose 1 random ingredient unless you have the relic to prevent that. If the demi-fae escapes, the ritualist is wounded as well. Failed rituals will still give you experience at the rate of 5 + (attempted ritual level * 2).
In either case, performing a ritual requires 4 energy. Humans with the Sorcerer class and level 2 of the Gaia's Whisper power can perform rituals for 3 energy instead of 4.

The Fae Language consists of 46 symbols. Each acts as a single word but can be combined to form new words. A 47th symbol acts as a break between words or phrases. Each word has a meaning, though so far only the Elders - vampires who predate the Holocaust - know the meanings of a few.
Each demi-fae has its own name, which appears as the first word in each ritual. In addition, every character, NPC, building, and weapon has their own Fae Language name, which remain constant. These names are required for certain rituals that affect a specific target.
Demi-fae names are formed from one word ("des", for instance), while characters, NPC, buildings and weapons have names made of two words ("met ialo", for example).
An incantation is broken up into several parts: the demi-fae's name; the "emotion" of the fae which created them; the target's name (in the Fae Language); the target type (such as a location, a person, or an object); the deed desired of the demi; and a final, seemingly random phrase.
The incantation is made of a combination of 46 graphemes (or images, letters). Using the provided board listing all of them, you click on one grapheme to try it. If it is not relevant to the ritual, the demi-fae will try to escape, thus damaging the barrier. If your choice is good, the demi-fae will be forced to listen. The idea is to keep the demi-fae contained in the circle while trying to guess the full incantation. Each incorrect guess will use up one action, as will repairing any part of the barrier.
Aeryn the Ritualist is available to perform the mastery unlock ritual. She works out of the Abandoned Mansion, North of Elmworth, where you can find her standing at the altar (13,7). You will need to have the correct mastery shard in your inventory for her to offer to perform the service.
This is the only service Aeryn provides. In the past, she did offer ritual services, but has withdrawn from that market.
Notes on Rituals
Should you leave the ritual page while a ritual is in progress, when you next access a ritual altar, you will be returned to that same in-progress ritual.
Easier / Harder Rituals
The number of turns (time, in a roleplay sense) is now partially dependent on the difficulty of the ritual in question. When performing a level 2 ritual, you will get 10 extra turns to guess the correct symbols, simply because you have more time to do it. Performing a level 15 ritual, however, will give you fewer turns than usual.
To learn rituals beyond the basic seven, you must acquire the tome for the ritual. Such tomes must be carried in your inventory to be accessible at an altar. There are a variety of ways to obtain a copy of a previously discovered tome.
Copies of highly distributed tomes can be purchased from magic shops for prices ranging upwards of $2,000. For those discovered tomes not purchasable in the shop, the only way to get a copy is from a player character. If one is lucky, they may be able to find a copies on the auction block. Otherwise, they may wish to ask around to see if someone would be willing to sell or give away a copy.
Tomes are not necessarily going to be found in book format, but may be electronic files, or really anything where information can be transcribed.
